Dear Conservative Party Member:

This year, in the Third Assembly District, there is no Republican running and our Conservative line was given away to a liberal Democrat chosen by John Powell as part of political vendetta! Please help me to REJECT this invader and protest this disgraceful corruption of our Conservative ballot line.

My name is Bruce A. Martin. I am enrolled Conservative and have never changed my enrollment or run on another party line since I first registered to vote in Yaphank in 1966. Over the past 30 years, I've been a Conservative Party activist, campaign manager, Committeeman, officer, and have served on the Brookhaven Town Conservative Party Executive Committee. In the 1970s, I reorganized the Douglas A. MacArthur Conservative Club, and brought its membership to record, triple-digit levels.

In the past, I worked hard and proudly for the election of many Conservative candidates such as enrolled Conservatives John Conroy, John Bellport, John Bloom, Anthony DiPerna, and the only Conservative ever to serve in Congress: Bill Carney; I also supported many Conservative-Republicans deserving of our ballot line, including James Buckley, Malcom Wilson, Charles Barraud, and Ronald Reagan.

However, this year, I could not bring myself to support the big-spending liberal Democrat whose name disgraces our Conservative ballot line for the Third Assembly District. That is why I am running on Row G as Libertarian Party candidate for New York State Assembly. Please look for me in column 25, on Row G, to vote for the only enrolled Conservative on the ballot for this office.

Four years ago, we Conservatives were delighted when Governor Cuomo was ousted, with the help of the Conservative Party line. Unfortunately, state spending has soared to record levels undreamed of even by Mario "Tax-And-Spend" Cuomo. Despite his election-year tax gimmicks (like the unfunded "STAR" program, that will leave a budget gap bigger than the LIPA bonds when it ends in a few years), George "Borrow-And-Spend" Pataki does not deserve the Conservative Party line again.

After winning 1994 votes partly because of opposition to the LILCO bailout, Governor Pataki then reversed himself, supported the massive LILCO/LIPA bailout, and prevented a vote on the back-door bonds. and appointed Cuomo's henchman Richie Kessel. George Pataki does not deserve the Conservative Party line again -- certainly not in Suffolk County!

That's why I also support Chris Garvey for Governor and his call for abolition of the state income tax, an end to costly "mandates" from Albany, and protection of your Second Amendment rights. Garvey is also an enrolled Conservative, as is his running mate Dr. Robert Goodman for Comptroller. Among the eight Libertarian candidates (who share Row G with another party), three are enrolled Conservatives -- that is three times as many Conservatives as you will find among their opponents on Row C.

Along with enrolled Conservatives Garvey, Goodman, and Martin, you will also see the names of John Bloom and Adele Bolger. John, a long-time Conservative Party activist, quit in disgust a few years ago and is now an enrolled Republican; he is active in the U. S. Taxpayers Party and campaigned for Howard Phillips. John Bloom will follow in the footsteps of John Bellport and the late Joe Macchia, to become a truly Conservative voice on the Brookhaven Town Council. That is why he supports long-time Conservative Party objectives of Councilmanic Districts and a Civil Service system to replace the scandalous "spoils" system of patronage hiring. Adele Bolger, a non-partisan Independent, will bring proven technologies and sound management practices from her successful business career to the County Clerk's office, and privatize services to create more non-patronage jobs in the private sector.

It is time to send a message that we Conservatives are fed up with the party bosses who buy and sell our ballot line, in exchange for patronage and favors, but can't even insist that candidates support Conservative principles. Vote for the Libertarian-Conservatives on Row G.

Sincerely,
Bruce A. Martin
