- I wrote the solution to the floating point format homework this morning.
To do this I utilized some methods of the wrapper class
Integer
.
Please look up the methods Integer.numberOfLeadingZeros(int i)
and
Integer.highestOneBit(int i)
.
The first method returns the number of leading zeros in a binary integer value
which can be used to determine the number of bits in the binary integer value.
The second method returns the argument value with all but the leftmost 1 bit
set to zero.
You can use this to remove the hidden bit (for example).
