History of the New York Mets

The Rebirth of National League Baseball in New York

  1. New York Mets, also known as the New York Metropolitans
  2. Part of the National League East Division, and one of baseballs first expansion teams.
  3. Franchise established in 1962, to replace the two national league teams: the Brooklyn Dodgers, and the NY baseball Giants.
  4. The team colors were derived from these two former NY teams: blue from the Dogers and orange from the Giants.
  5. For the 1962 and 1963 season, the Mets play at the polo grounds, in upper Manhattan.
  6. 1964 NY Mets move into Shea Stadium, in the Flushing section of Queens, NYC. They will play here until 2008.
  7. 2009 The Mets move to their current home at Citi Field, and the dimensions are changed for 2012 season.
