Instructions for task #1 in CM-41 Lab

Do the following to create and modify pages on your geocities website. -- Due next week

  1. Using notepad, create a new HTML page named "TASK1.HTM" on your disk:
  2. Use the browser (Netscape) to look at your new page. (Click on "File/Open File" rather than "Open Location".) Continue editing until it is correct.
  3. From your website, download your home page (index.html) to a backup file named "I1004A.HTM" on your disk.
  4. From the "CM-41 Class Website", download the following page to "METRIC.HTM" on your disk:
  5. Bring up the Geocities File-Manager (via link on our class website page). Use "EZ Upload", with "lowercase" and "html" options both set, to upload your "TASK1.HTM" page as task1.html". Also upload the metric page. When uploads are done, check that the two pages are listed with their names in lower case and ending in "html" (not "HTM").
  6. Select the "index.html" file and edit it as follows: Between two horizontal rules, near the middle of the page, add links to: Be sure to use a break (BR) between each link. Make a new paragraph and add a "mailto:" link for email to your "hotmail" address. Display your email address ("whatever@hotmail.com") in text as well as in the link.
  7. Use the "Preview" feature to check your changes. "Save and continue editing" your index page. Also check it with the browser. (You may launch a new browser and still keep the editor in a window!) When it is correct, "Save".
  8. Now, use the browser to look at your revised home page. (Press the "Reload" button to get the latest version.) Save it on your disk in a backup file named "I970927B.HTM".
